![]() ![]() If you wish to connect one of these, you need a board or adapter to convert the signal levels. The ports use 0V and 3.3 V logic levels, not 0 & +5V TTL levels or the +/-12 V used by RS-232 serial ports found on some older PCs. The Broadcom chip at the heart of the Raspberry Pi has low power serial ports with limitations of voltage and protocol compatibility. You will also need to connect the Ground pins of the two devices together. To connect to another serial device, you connect the 'transmit' of one to the 'receive' of the other, and vice versa. ![]() If no such program is running, but Port Check can't find the COM port, make sure your COM port has a valid driver installed and it is set to a COM port number of 9 or lower. The Raspberry Pi serial port consists of two signals (a 'transmit' signal, TxD and a 'receive' signal RxD) made available on the GPIO header. Some infrared communcations devices and Palm's HotSync program can also tie up COM ports. If you get back a strange, garbled response, most likely your firmware is corrupted and needs to be reloaded. If the Port Check program reports "no valid ports found" or the only "valid" port it finds replies with "S", check to be sure you don't have any programs open that would use the COM port, like MegaTune or TunerStudio. If you get a port where it replies with "S", this port is probably a fake COM port that echos back everything that's typed. All firmware versions that identify themselves with the same signature also use the same INI file.Sometimes you get responses that are not firmware. ![]() Note that some Megasquirt firmware versions will look like earlier versions with this test - for example, MS2/Extra 2.0.1 identifies it as 2.0.0. ![]() When this program starts, it will scan the available COM ports. If the port it's scanning is not connected to a working Megasquirt, or it's on the wrong speed, it'll say "No connection made." If it's on the right port and right speed, it will give you the version of the Megasquirt firmware that's on the Megasquirt. Close MegaTune or TunerStudio if it's running, and run the portcheck.exe program. You do not need to open the case and should not put the boot jumper in place for this test. To use the port check, power up the Megasquirt and connect it to your PC. My fault should have told you to power up megasquirt and then run port check shoukd give you firmware version. ![]()
